Detailed Description

Helios is a two-story house, built on the ideal of green urban infill and the capital of simple beauty integrated into urban landscape.  Typical of mid-century architecture, Helios was designed with the intention of opening up interior spaces and bringing the outdoors in, through ample windows and an open floor plan. The furnishings mirror the design of the house – lean and simple, built with intention, with the details in the design that give the house it’s life (and purpose). Function was as important as form in Mid-Century designs and Helios is furnished with the needs of the active Bend visitor looking for unique and memorable basecamp for their Central Oregon vacation.

First Floor

Throughout the first floor you’ll find radiant heated concrete flooring, stained and sealed with soy-based products. The floor literally warms your feet as you walk on it. The light-filled living room, at the front of the house, is furnished with two modern sofas, two orange wool Arne Jacobsen-inspired lounge chairs, a walnut Eames molded plywood coffee table, a 37 inch flat-screen TV, all centered around a stunning SPARK Modern Fire flame-only fireplace. The many windows look out on Newport Ave, and are outfitted with custom blinds, that can alternately filter and block out light. Adjacent to the living room area is the Japanese-inspired fully equipped gourmet kitchen with a long and lean Madrone kitchen peninsula offering a unifying element between living room and kitchen, and furnished with six Emeco aluminum stools. In the kitchen you’ll find a Thermador built-in refrigerator, Jenn-Air gas range, Bosch dishwasher, large cast iron sink with commercial pull-down sprayer, custom wheat board cabinetry with reclaimed black Walnut accents, as well as ample equipment for cooking, dining, and entertaining. Adjacent to the kitchen, accessed through the open hallway or through the pass-through kitchen countertop is the stylish dining area. The dining room is furnished with comfortable seating for six at the authentic Eames oval dining room table, and accompanying cast-aluminum Pensi-inspired chairs. Orbiting above the table is an authentic aluminum Titania light. Adjacent to the dining room is another custom-built workspace. Off the hallway leading to the single car garage is an elegant half-bath. 

Second Floor

Up an architecturally stunning double staircase you’ll find the master suite, with king sized bed, and accompanying bath. The master bath includes a Jacuzzi brand soaking tub, over-sized shower with bench, Italian tile surround & glass floor tiles, double-sinks set in Paperstone counter top, Grohe fixtures, a hydronic-heated towel rack, and warm radiant-heated cork flooring. Transom windows allow light to shine in while maintaining the privacy of your sanctuary. At the back of the second story, off the master suite, is a small, detail-drive balcony, perfect for taking in the cool night air from up high. On the opposite end of the second floor, you’ll find two bedrooms, one with a queen mattress, the other king, eco-wool carpet, and built-in custom desks and cabinets. The entire house is complimented by 9 ft ceilings with 8ft solid wood doors, so the three upstairs bedrooms are private, as needed, or open to the rest of the house. All beds are made with 1000+ thread count cotton sheets, hypoallergenic comforters, and high thread count cotton duvet covers. Each bedroom also has a Jorge Pensi ceiling fans and ample, operable windows with custom blinds.  Off the adjacent hallways is the second full bath includes a bath/shower combo with vibrant custom tile, Paperstone countertops and artful sinks. There is an energy efficient washer and dryer in a dedicated laundry closet.

Additional Details

There is a partially enclosed yard running the length of the house on the East side of the house, professionally designed with native landscaping. We provide a gas grill and outdoor seating for six. This is a strictly non-smoking home, indoors and out.  Smoking is not allowed anywhere on the property. Dogs are allowed. Please inquire about the suitability of this property for small children as the second story windows may not be considered "toddler-proof".

Helios is equipped with wireless internet, cable television, telephone, and all guests are given free passes to McMenamins Turkish soaking pool as well as a gift basket featuring Strictly Organic Coffee and EO bath products.
